Microlearning is used in a variety of blended learning solutions and applied to several learning experiences and delivery methods. Microlearning is now widely used in eLearning, video, job aids, and reference materials. Research shows that adult learners are more likely to learn and retain information in the long term when training is broken into smaller chunks. Gone, are the days where I expect learners to access large volumes of information over a short period of time.
Comprehensive course content can be overwhelming to learners, due to the sheer amount of information. Microlearning can make the transfer of this type of content more efficient. In other words, by breaking down the overall course load into shorter, more digestible microlearning sections, the learning is easier to absorb and retain. This helps with the transfer of learning and enhances the end-users learning experience.
Microlearning is ideal because the learner deals with small learning units and short-term learning activities. Microlearning is an integrated approach for skill-based learning and education which deals with small learning units. It involves short-term-focused strategies especially designed for skill.
